Mini Roadshow: MAMA MUNCHER

For our mini roadshow, EMRS Team 3 had the choice of working with an internal or external vendor. Because we wanted to sell something which was unavailable in school, we decided to go for an external vendor that sells old school snacks.

We worked on a consignment basis with Lian Hup and Cheers to bring in old school snacks and popular drinks from the past which reminisce about the period when we were in school. The mini sales took place during the exam period on 18 August 2015, from 10.30am to 3.30pm. The objectives of the roadshow are to hit the sales target, engaging of external & internal vendors, insights on planning event from scratch and having hands on experience.

Having a tight budget for this event, we tried to minimize on the amount of money we spent on materials. To overcome this issue, our team brought materials from home for the decoration of the Mama Muncher signboards.

Layout of our booth!

As a group, we decided on the theme 'MAMA MUNCHER' which was the combination of "mama shop" and "stress muncher". As we thought that it was the exam period and every lecturer and student would be very stressed.

On the day of the mini roadshow, EMRS Team 3 started the set up at 9.00am. However, the set up was rather messy despite going through 2 dry-runs as there were changes of fixtures and logistics confusion. As a team, we set up the tables, placed the tablecloths and arranged the props and products of our booth.

The A&P team came up with promotional ideas such as coming up with pre-order delivery services and distribution of flyers all over school to attract customers to patronize our booth. The OIC came up with a movement and manpower schedule which separated the group into different teams. One team was stationed at the booth while the other three teams were deployed out for mobile selling.

At the end of the event, we managed to exceed our sales target of $350. We hit an estimated of $557.50 with a profit of $140 - $150 with the help of the supportive friends and lecturers.

FLYER DESIGN

All in all, despite the tight deadline that we had to meet, we were confident in making this event a success. Even though we are from different specialization, fate brought us together. Throughout the period in EMRS, we bonded with one another and created memories that are precious. EMRS was indeed an enriching and fruitful experience for all of us as we had learnt the importance of teamwork throughout event planning. Because without it, we would not be able to accomplish all events.

SG50 NATIONAL DAY I.T. FAIR (Collaboration with Kaira)

EMRS Team 3 recently collaborated with Kaira, a regional distributor of I.T. products, for a SG50 I.T. Fair sale. The I.T. Fair was held from 3rd to 4th August 2015, 10:30AM to 4:30PM outside D'Studio. The objectives of this roadshow were to test out the student market for I.T. products on behalf of Kaira, to increase the awareness of Kaira, and also to learn what goes into planning and executing an event.

Preparation:
We liaised with Frederick, the product manager of Targus and representative for Kaira, to bring in products that we think are likely to appeal more to students and the staff of NYP.
We were also given a budget of $30 for this event, which we spent mostly on A&P and booth decoration.
A dry-run was executed on 31st July. We timed ourselves for the set up and tear down of our booth. This allowed us to have a feel of how much time will be needed for set up and tear down is going to be like on the day itself.

Day 1:
Every group member reached school at 8:30AM for the set up of the booth. The set up ended at at 10:35AM. Reason for taking almost two hours for the set up is because the powerpoints were not available at the event area, so we had to tap on the power source downstairs beside the ATM.
We also had mobile selling teams for Day 1 to encourage our target audience to purchase products from us.

The hard disks were quite a hot seller too!

Day 2:
After the set up on day 1, we have gotten the gist of it and hence we were able to complete our set up within an hour. The powerpoints at the event's area were also fixed so we need not tap on the power source downstairs.
We also rearranged the products. We started our sales earlier, and it has been proven that when we start earlier, we were able to earn more sales. We also had mobile sellers that went out during non peak hours to our target audience in attempt to increase our sales.

Conclusion:
All in all, the event was a success! Even though we missed our sales target by an estimate of $30, we were all happy that we were able to learn a lot from this event.
Especially in terms of logistics and how to be flexible in times when there are unexpected hiccups. This event has also helped team 3 to build strong comradeship with each other and helped NYP and Kaira to build a relationship, which may aid in future projects.

Sony Carnival @ NYP

SONY Carnival @ NYP

Our EMRS Team 3 collaborated with SONY to host a carnival that was held at the NYP atrium from 24th June to 26th June, 10.30 am to 5.00 pm. This was first colloboration with Sony and we are very honored and delighted. The objectives of the event were to increase brand awareness for SONY, especially SONY Mobile products,

Pre-event:
We liaised with the SONY representatives, Jake and Carolyn, both NYP alumnus, to work on the details for the carnival. We were given a budget of $3000 to work on the event and we spent most of it on fringe activities and printing of promotional materials.

Event Day 1:
Setup started 8:00 a.m. and ended at 10:00a.m. The reason for the long set up was due to confusion on how the layout was made. There was also a shift of the registration counter of the game competition to the counter area. The snack stalls was shifted to the area near the photo booth so as to attract crowd to attend the booth.

Event Day 2:
The set up on the second day took less than an hour as we have already familiarized ourselves with the placement of the fixtures. All the fixtures were kept at the back room of the auditorium for ease of transportation and products were kept in B409 under lock and key.
The Sound Card performance at 1.20p.m garnered a lot of supporters. These supporters also went down and check out the Sony booths as well as participated in our games competitions/photo booths etc.

Event Day 3:
Setup time for the third day was massively reduced to 30 minutes, from 9a.m. to 9.30a.m. This was due to everyone familiarization and help rendered from Team 2. Team 2 was then sent to give out flyers while team 3 and some of team 2 manned the booths in the atrium. We were so happy but sad at the same time as we had to tear down the event at the end of the day!

Conclusion:
Overall, the event flowed smoothly. One of the challenges faced during the event is to attract people in buying the SONY Mobile accessories as most students and staff are not using SONY products. We have learnt a lot of lessons in terms of teamwork and logistics for setting up the event. Not only was it a good experience to run the event, but it also helped to strengthen and build relationship across the EMRS teams. It also provided the opportunity for NYP to build a relationship with SONY for future events.

Wei Yang
"Working with SONY was a fruitful experience as we were able to experience first-hand on partnering with a global brand on an event. It taught me to step out of my comfort zone and to step up to be responsible for managing the event when it counts. Will be a memory never to be missed!"

Guo Xiang
"It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to plan an event together with my group. It was stressful during the planning phase, but during the actual event, we were able to taste the fruit of our success and it was sweet!"

International Fair 2015

International Fair 2015 – Around the World
Date: 8 July 2015
Time: 11AM – 5PM
Venue: Block B, 2nd level, Seminar rooms & Foyer

For the International Fair this year, team 3 was tasked to create a fun and exciting experience for our SBM students. The objective was to allow them to learn more about the Overseas Student Exchange Program (OSEP) opportunities and expose them to the different people and cultures in a foreign land.

The countries participating in this event included Japan, Korea, Germany, France, Netherlands, Scotland and Finland. During our meeting with the students and teacher in charge, we came up with a proposed theme, layout and concept for the event.
Brainstorming for ideas!
Our A&P such as our main event poster, seminar talk poster, brochures and decoration items will be designed in a very airport-ish theme!

Individual Country Posters

Each teammate was in charge of a country. They were responsible to liaise with the international students and find out the details (Images to be added into into their individual booth posters, collation of song lists that will be played, etc.) for their country booth. It was up to the students to decide the fixtures and props they required and activities that they would like to play.

Meeting with German Students
Taking measurements to prepare for event day!

On the event day, we met with a few problems along the way but we managed to set up the country booths with some help from the teachers and quick thinking! When the international students came in at 10am, all they needed to do was to set up their own table and display the items they brought.

Morning Set-up
 Finland: Hei, tervetuloa!
Japan: こんにちは、ようこそ!
Korean students say: "안녕하세요! Welcome to our booth!"

In the morning, there was lesser crowd because most of the students had morning classes.  But in the afternoon, more and more students started pouring in!
Q&A sessions!
Oh just look at the crowd:D

The games at each booth kept the students and teachers entertained. Also, Year 1 & 2s  used this opportunity to get answers on questions related to studying overseas!  Students who have experienced studying abroad also shared their stories in a foreign land, how to get around using the public transport and the local people they met!

Team 3!!
At 4.30pm, our team started to tear down the decorations and cleaned up the seminar room. By 5pm, the logistics were moved back to the fixtures room.We double checked that we had the right number of flags, globe balloons and maps before returning it to the teacher.

To round things up, we had fun preparing for this event because it was unlike the previous ones we did.  Our supervisor and teacher in charge were really supportive. They gave us more freedom in making our own decisions and space to expand our imagination.

A big thank you to all of the international students & teachers. We hope to see you again at the next international fair!!!
Forever & Always,
Team 3
