Retail Career Seminar November 2013

On the 20th of November 2013, a retail career seminar was held at Level 2 Block B.

We were honoured and grateful to have guests from these well-established companies to share their knowledge, experiences and talk about the scholarships on offer.

Planning

Our team was tasked to facilitate the Retail seminar which was part of the Retail Career fair that was managed by Team 4.

To plan this event, we set a very clear and detailed list of things to be done and a proper manpower list to ensure that everyone has a part to play and execute it well.

Our first task was to familiarise ourselves with the three seminar rooms. We needed to know its seating capacities and ensure that we have enough chairs for everyone. Beforehand, we searched for extra chairs that are in good condition and that are appropriate for the venue to accommodate staff and students who are interested to attend the talks but weren't able to register. After which, we finalised the fixtures needed and the signage/posters to be displayed along the corridors for directions.

On the actual day, we set up the seminar rooms early by putting in the extra chairs, arranged the signage, the registration table and name lists of attendees. The seminar talks were held at B 203, B 203A and B 204 with a total of 82 attendees. During the talks, the speakers gave an overview about their companies, operations, the brands they hold, various career opportunities and more. The speakers were also patient and delighted to answer the student's queries. Moreover, they gave generous and exciting goody bags to all attendees and staff.

With the distinguished guests, staff and the directors of SBM

To sum it up, it has been a great opportunity for us to help out in this seminar which has a line up of big and reputable companies. It was important for us to create a good impression for the guests by ensuring the smooth flow of the registrations and that the set up was up to a professional standard.

Mini Roadshow "Journey @ NYP" by Team 2

On the 14th of November 2013, an interesting mini roadshow was planned and executed by us, EMRS TEAM 2! We were tasked to liaise with our school's very own MSC Studio and consign products from them to sell. MSC has their own respective suppliers which carries various items such as fashion apparels, gift items, IT accessories and cosmetic products. The duration of the event was from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Planning

To start off, we were given two weeks to plan out this event. However, we had limited time as we had another event prior to this which was the Cheers Challenge Registrations and Briefing. We only had 5 days to plan, finalize the details, theme and props. The first step for us in the initial planning phase was to assign roles such as who would be the overall-in-charge, logistics, finance and one in charge for the advertising and promotions.

Check out our uber cool banner, movie clappers
 and our styro-made film camera!

After a few hours of brain storming, the team had finally decided a theme which is "Journey". The reason why we chose this theme was to 'remind' students of the items they have used or would still be using from year 1 to year 3 during their poly life and evoke their memories. We want students to know that there is something in MSC that is suitable for them regardless of what year they are in. In addition, by organizing a roadshow outside the shopping arcade, which is near the link way and where the human traffic is high, it drew more potential customers and helped in creating more brand awareness for the products. Moreover, since our products on sale are very useful to all students throughout their NYP journey, we aimed to spur their inner emotions and needs that would lead them from buying our products.

Our second step was to head down to the MSC studio and check out their wide range of interesting products that we would be bringing to our mini roadshow and what we have thought would interest the students and staff the most. We have decided to bring in NYP shirts, singlets, IT accessories, made in candies, Samsung covers and so much more!

So thus began our props-making!
Half-way through the completion of our props with happy faces!

(Decorating our colourful mobile polaroid booth. Choo chooo!)
Mustache-mania for our polaroid booth :D

Overall, we managed to pull through with our planned decors and maximised all the resources we had which were mostly recycled materials due to the limited budget that was given to us. We were really proud of the styro-made film camera props that we had because many people acknowledged that they thought it was real! Hard work paid off yeaaahhh. :)

Executing

On the actual day, which was on a Thursday, we were all prepared to set up the booth and execute the event. We finalized all our props, posters, products and as a team, we went down to the event site at 10:00 am so that we could set up everything by 10:30 am. We had properly allocated the manpower duties to ensure the smooth flow of the operation. So there was basically 4 people assigned to man the booth and 4 people to do mobile selling. For mobile selling, our main tactic was to promote our Polaroid films. In order for it to be attractive, we sold the films individually for $1.10 and we brought along a colourful border and props. Moreover, we also assigned only one crew to manage the sales memo and another one to take care of the cashier duty to ensure that no discrepancy would happen with our cash and luckily there was none. :)

A fantastic journey with Team 2!

Throughout the mini roadshow, from the start to the end, we experienced working together in a team. We realized the importance and the impact of good team work as the whole planning and executing process requires effort from each individual in order to make the event a success. Our efforts were paid off as we almost doubled our sales target! All in all, the journey team 2 experienced was certainly fun, exciting and educational! Kudos to TEAM 2!

'Time Out, Chill Now!' Cheers Mini Roadshow by EMRS Team 3

The mini road show for EMRS team 3 was held outside MSC studio along level 2 corridor of SBM block on the 14th of November 2013. The products that we sold were drinks and snacks. Some of drinks included the popular Pokka green tea, Banana milk and Hot Kid. Some of the snacks that we brought in were Pocky, Hello Panda, Kit Kat, Mentos and many more. The event kicked off  at 10:30 am and it ended at 3:30 pm.

Planning

For this event, our team were given 2 weeks to plan. On the first week of EMRS, we had to appoint the OIC (overall-in-charge). After much discussion the OIC role went to Wayne Loong. Gillot took on the A&P IC and Donovan took on the logistics IC role. Firstly, we had to come out with a theme that would attract our target market which are teenagers. After 2-3 days, we finally decided on a theme revolving around the "relaxing feel" while our slogan was "Time Out, Chill Now!"

Before the actual day of the mini road show, we placed our poster stands at strategic locations within NYP. We placed it near the escalator at the atrium, outside North canteen, outside Koufu and outside the Fast food canteen.

Executing

On the 14th of November, we arrived at the EMRS room at 9am sharp and then we went to get our products and fixtures for our booth. As there were a lot of products, we took some time in setting up the booth and we completed it by 10:15am, 15 minutes before the stipulated time. Next we started our booth sales and mobile selling. Our team decided on a minimum of 3 people to be stationed at the counter at all times while the rest to do mobile selling. Our mobile sellers also managed to bring some people back to the stall to buy more products as the stall has more varieties.

EMRS team 3 ! HUAT AH ! <(^.^)>

Throughout the whole course of the event, from planning to executing, we experienced working together as a team. We realized the importance of teamwork and team cooperation as without these factors we would not be able to execute the mini road show successfully. Our efforts paid off as we achieved our sales target and we even SMASHED the all time record for the highest sales for the mini road shows that EMRS has held all these years.

Cheers Design Challenge Briefing

On Wednesday, 6 November 2013, we had our Cheers Challenge Briefing.

For the pre-event, we managed to set everything up on time. We prepared for the participants arrival by adding more chairs in the briefing room as the response from the participants were amazing. The room was filled. Thankfully, we planned to add more chairs to accommodate them in case more people turn up for the briefing.

We assigned two of our team members for the registration and the rest, to help the participants to look for their allocated seats. Each team was given a team number and were seated according to the seat plan that we have prepare. Having a seat plan was great as they were seated immediately as they entered the room.

The briefing was held to give the participants a wider overview about the contest. The briefing was done by none other than our supervisor, Mr Sudesh. It was a chance for the participants to clear their doubts about the contest. The briefing was also attended by Mr Peter, General Manager of Cheers.
