FairPrice Christmas Bazaar

FairPrice Christmas Bazaar
Introduction
Our final event was FairPrice Christmas Bazaar that was held from the 5th to 9th of December 2011 at the NYP atrium. There was a variety of products sold at the bazaar. The items include snacks, drinks, books, water bottles, printer and apparels. Although FairPrice did bulk in most of the preparation work, everyone in EMRS still gave their very best in helping their suppliers in selling their booth products.

Pre Event
For this event, EMRS came up with the design of the posters and email blast to raise awareness about the fair among the staff and students of NYP. Before the event, the OICs (Shirley & Hambali) met the FairPrice managers who were in charge of the fair and gave them a tour around the school so that they could do up the floor plan for the fair. The OICs also shared with the FairPrice managers on some of the possible items they can bring down to the fair which will attract the fellow students. Besides that, the OICs also had to allocate manpower based on the requirements given by FairPrice. Despite the lack of time, the OICs managed to complete the entire task given to them by working together effectively.

During Event
On the first day of the event, all of us had to help unpack the products and place them on the wagons provided. There were a total of 133 wagons to be set up!

The first day of the fair was one of the busiest crowds we have had for the 5 days held. Take a look at what happened.

We even held a lucky draw contest which is entitled to customers who spend $15 and above in a single receipt will get a chance to spin the lucky wheel!

As Christmas is coming, we also had a booth for customers who are interested to pre-order Christmas spreads for this important occasion!

On the 3rd and 4th day, our supervisors decided to create shifts. There was the morning shift and afternoon shift. Shirley was in charge of the morning shift while Hambali took charge of the afternoon shift. Everyone was happy with the shifts as we could take turns to work instead of having to stand at the Atrium for the whole day!

Final Day
On our final day, we had an early pack up which started at about 4pm. Our suppliers arrived early and needed help with packing up so all of us helped one another to pack up even though some were not our individual suppliers. We worked together as one and managed to finish packing up by 5.15pm!

The FairPrice Christmas Bazaar was a successful event. Our OICs’ aimed for a target of $15,000 for 5 days and we managed to exceed the target! The FairPrice managers were so thrilled that they gave us 8 tubs of Haagen Daz Ice Cream, Cornetto Ice Cream Cones and goodie bags as a form of reward. We enjoyed our last event very much and felt very privileged to be given an opportunity working with FairPrice.

Team Building for EMRS S2/R1/2011

EMRS, Team Bonding Day
On the first week of our stopover at EMRS, there were many unfamiliar faces and team bonding day was essential to help us break out of our shell and help nurture new friendships. Prior to team bonding day, team building IC had a budget of $20 to purchase prizes which include snacks and candies to be given out to the winning teams. Logistics needed for this event include cloth, cupboards, markers and name cards.
Before we commence the game activities, everyone was given name cards to differentiate themselves for easy recognition!

Ice Breaker Games!
2 Truths, 1 Lie

Every student had to introduce their names, and tell 2 truths, 1 lie about themselves.
Each time a person guesses a lie incorrectly, a “cross” will be marked on their name cards. Want to find out what happens to the person with the most crosses? Read more!

Halfway through the event, students from Yu Ying Secondary School joined us and each student was allocated to a team to participate in the activities as well.

Next, we moved on the “Egg, Chick, Rooster, Eagle, Superman game.” Basically, it’s just like “Scissors, paper, stone”. Each time you win in “Scissors, paper, stone”, you level up. (e.g. from Egg, you develop into a Chick). However, if you lose, you downgrade to your previous level.

FORFEIT!
The remaining 10 people who remained as Eggs get to spell “Superman” with their butt! HAHA!

Team Building Games!
The Cupboard Game
After much talking and mingling around the spacious area, we moved on to team building games which required a lot of communication, group effort and encouragement.

Each group had a piece of cupboard to shift all team mates from one end of the room to the other end using only their given cupboard. Winning team will win prizes!

Guess who won?

                                  TEAM 3!!!
Of course, everybody is a winner so everyone gets a small prize!

The entire day ended well and the estimated time for each game was also prompt. Team bonding day had infinitely bonded us closer as a class, and established many new friendships.

Retail Seminar 2011

With keynote speakers from successful retail specialists such as Candylicious and Epicenter, Retail Seminar 2011 ended on a high note on the 9th November. At the end of the seminar, there was also a career fair featuring jobs opportunities from various companies like Triumph, Wing Tai, Watsons and many others.

Pre-event

The retail seminar was held to cater to the interests of our Year 1 to 3 students who intend to pursue a career in the retail industry. The event saw about 200 students. Prior to the event, EMRS assisted to consolidate the list of participants and also made calls to them to ensure that they turn up for the seminar.  Besides that, we also prepared signages to facilitate the registration process. As signages are important to the registration process, we had to create signages that are eye-catching and clear to the participants to ensure no confusion will arise.

There are also goodie bags given in the retail seminar. Goodie bags comprising of candies, hand sanitizer, tidbits, wet tissue, eye mask as well as face wash. Packing of goodie bags can be a challenge as there must be planning of allocation on who and how the goodie bags should be packed. Planning is essential to get all the goodie bags packed in an effective and efficient way. We packed a total of 349 goodie bags of which 4 of them were incomplete due to shortage of some products.  Helpers were seated in a circular position to pack the goodie bags which proved to be a faster way to complete the job. Even though packing of goodie bags sounds like an easy task, it is not at all as it tests us how to plan and organize effectively and efficiently.

During event

Actual event day begins with the setting-up of the vendors’ booths and registration counters. Some vendors came down with their exquisite and colorful posters and fixtures to display their products as well as the job opportunities they have to offer to the students.
The logistics team experienced problem in transporting the fixtures to the event venue as it is located at a different level from the fixtures room. Hence, more caution was needed when we were transporting the fixtures to the event venue.
Another problem encountered was the transporting of goodie bag. These goodie bags cannot be transported just on the trolley as it is inefficient use of space and they will fall of the trolley. Thus we need to pack them into carton boxes to transport them efficiently and safely.

As registration was one of the key aspects of the retail seminar, the EMRS team took into consideration on the number of participants and hence decided to set up two registration counters with two staff manning each booth to ensure that the registration process is smooth and not overcrowding. EMRS also assisted with the ushering of the participants into the auditorium and the keynote speakers up on stage. At the end of the seminar, the EMRS had to stand-by at the foyer to distribute the goodie bags as well as to collect the question slips issued to the participants at the registration. These collection slips also serve as lucky draws slips thus the goodies bag ushers have to collect all the question slips promptly and ensure that the slips are passed on to the emcee on time for the lucky draw.

Post event
The entire retail seminar ended with everything in place! All the seminar participants received informative and useful tips and knowledge from our speakers. Most importantly EMRS team fostered positive future working relationship with out vendors. . EMRS has gained valuable insights from the organization of this seminar. Manpower allocation was one of the key skills that we have picked up. Knowing the where and how’s of allocating manpower made the seminar a successful one. Learning how to organize and plan out the flow of registration and goodies bag distribution was also a key skill that we have picked up.
