Community Event - Care for Elderly Introduction

Thye Hua Kwan Organization (Moral Senior Activity Centre)
The Toa Payoh Moral senior activity centre is jointly implemented by MCYS, HDB and THKMS to improve the living conditions of low income elderly residing in one room rental flats in the area. The high concentration of elderly in the block prompted renovation to the physical environment so as to incorporate elderly friendly facilities for the senior residents.

Background
The Toa Payoh Moral senior activity centre is jointly implemented by MCYS, HDB and THKMS. The high concentration of elderly in the block prompted renovation to the physical environment so as to incorporate elderly friendly facilities for the senior residents.
In 1993, HDB and MCD jointly proposed a project to improve the living conditions of the low-income elderly residing in one room rental flats in the area.. In addition to the physical improvements to the flats and the environments, a Seniors Activity (SAC) was also incorporated. The provision of the SAC is aimed at providing social and recreational programmes and activity for the elderly residents to enable them to lead more meaningful social lives. It is also aimed at providing care and support services, such as friendship, mutual help schemes, emergency alert response calls, guidance, advice and information. Three blocks of one-room rental flats with a high concentration of the elderly were selected to spearhead this project – Congregate Housing for the Elderly.
